North Greenford power to victory
Bob Rayner reports
North Greenford United arrived at the Kamtech Stadium sitting third in the table before comfortably beating a young Rangers side with a display of power, pace and clinical finishing. It was Rangers with the early promise however with both Abdullah Jellal and Louis Fountain going close in the opening minutes, a couple of goal-line clearances saving the visitors. In the eighth minute good work by Kwesi Ntim set up Jelall again, whose volley was deflected for a corner, the resultant kick headed straight at the keeper by Alfie Corrick. At the other end a good block by Corrick averted danger as United threatened. On 20 minutes Chapple should scored when heading downward from a corner, straight at the keeper. United countered and a good punch by keeper, Dave Saunders, was recycled and Chapple misjudged the balls flight to allow the visitors in for a simple cut back and easy tap in by Killeen to open the scoring with their first real chance. The goal galvanised United and soon after, a surging run was halted by Chapple with a timely tackle. With the visitors appealing for a penalty that never was, the United assistant manager received a red card for his disrespectful remonstration at the officials. On 28 minute United deservedly doubled their lead when a powerful run down the Rangers right by Mitchell ended with a superb rising shot from the angle. From the restart United were soon on the attack again, firing over from 18 yards. Rangers reacted with a good run and cross by George Caille with Patrick Matejko completely mis-cueing his shot when in a good position. A good move by Rangers then followed, with Fountain's first touch letting him down in front of goal with just the keeper to beat. A minute to the break and Saunders saved well from a United strike from the edge of the box. The half finished with two chances for Rangers, Matejko's shot was well blocked and Ntim was denied at the near post following a good run.
The second half was controlled by the visitors as they emerged in positive mood, an early effort easily dealt with by Saunders. In the 50th minute United added a third after Rangers were undone by a ball through the middle, a fine finish by Mitchell for his second of the match. Rangers were in disarray and six minutes later United were awarded a penalty for Chapple's late tackle. Up stepped Mitchell to be denied by a superb save by Saunders, diving low to his left. Rangers rallied a little with a couple of half chances, the best a shot wide by Jellal, before Saunders was again in the action, saving at the feet of United's number nine. United's pace caused problems again when Rohat Matyar was on hand to block a goal-bound effort. Another Rangers give-away in the middle of the park saw Saunders called upon to make another great save, but he could do nothing about United's fourth. With Rangers committing players forward, United countered and an excellent finish from Quadry finished off an excellent move to make it four-nil. Rangers tried in vain to get some consolation but with North Greenford managing the game well, it was too little too late. A comfortable win for the visitors on a very heavy pitch with Rangers out-muscled, out-witted and outplayed on the day. With the two teams below Rangers both winning it is vital that Rangers get some joy at Holyport on Tuesday night.
Rangers Man of the Match: Dave Saunders. The Risborough keeper could do little about the United goals and kept the score down with some excellent saves, including a penalty stop. Enough said!
